El Malecon, Esperanza, Vieques, Puerto Rico

El Malecón is the waterfront strip in Barrio Esperanza, on the south coast of Vieques. It is a favorite hangout for visitors and residents alike, with restaurants that range from casual to finer dining and a sunset over the water to end the day.

What to do

  • Eat and drink. Pick from a range of restaurants along the strip, from casual spots to finer dining.
  • Shop local. Local artists often sell their work here, which makes it a good place to buy a souvenir and support island makers.
  • Go to the beach. The beach next to the Malecón is calm and family friendly, and it is good for swimming and snorkeling.
  • Watch the horses. Young locals often ride horses along the Malecón, especially on Sundays.

Evenings

Vieques is not a nightlife destination, but if you want good food and some evening entertainment, El Malecón is the place to be.
