Playa Negra Fine Foods
A weekend-only culinary treat near Black Sand Beach, Playa Negra Fine Foods serves creative breakfast and lunch dishes, artisan breads, and pastries.
Weekends in Vieques come with a special treat: breakfast or lunch at Playa Negra Fine Foods. This pop-up eatery brings together inventive cooking, artisan baking, and a deeply personal connection to the island, making it well worth planning part of your weekend around.
Behind it are Wanda, a chef and artisan baker, and Gustavo, the former owners of Bayaonda Restaurant and Artisan Breads. Their new chapter unfolds on a property that was once Wanda’s grandfather’s home and cattle ranch, in front of Vieques’ beautiful Black Sand Beach. That family history gives the setting a sense of place that feels entirely its own.
The food reflects their curiosity and experience, weaving influences from multiple cuisines into Puerto Rican Criollo traditions. Their approach takes no shortcuts: fresh, high-quality ingredients, including some grown on their farm, become creative dishes with plenty of character. Think wonderful salads and sandwiches, artisan breads and pastries, tapas, and distinctive plates that give familiar local flavors an imaginative turn.
Settle into the easygoing surroundings, pair your meal with a local artisan brew or biodynamic wine, or pick up something delicious to enjoy elsewhere. Open for breakfast and lunch on weekends only, Playa Negra Fine Foods is one of those island pleasures to make time for when your visit lines up.
